ZCME Commemorates International Day of the Girl Child
On October 1, 2024, the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs (ZCME) celebrated the International Day of the Girl Child by visiting the club’s psychological center, dedicated to supporting girls who have been victims of sexual abuse. The event was marked by a vibrant mini-fiesta, designed to bring joy and comfort to the girls in the center’s care.
The celebration included traditional Filipino treats such as dirty ice cream served by a local sorbetero and taho from a street vendor, along with puto and pansit—delighting both the girls and the visiting members.
As part of the festivities, the girls expressed their resilience through heartwarming dance performances, which moved the attendees deeply. In addition to the joyful celebration, the Zontians were given the opportunity to hear the powerful testimony of Jamila, a brave survivor who shared her story of being sexually abused by her father at a young age. Her courage and strength left a lasting impact on everyone present.
