16 Days Write Ups
Zonta Club of Makati and Environs in partnership with Makati Social Welfare Department (MSWD) made an exhilarating 16 days of activism with more than 300 participants from Makati City composed of women representatives from 33 barangays, students from the University of Makati, the Kababaihans organization from Taguig City at the Auditorium of University of Makati on November 30, 2023. They came to watch a film regarding real life stories of women experiencing different women issues titled: “Babae Ka, Hindi Babae Lang!” After the film showing, they hear the brilliant speakers who tackled and explained the different women’s rights, actions and process to be taken to file cases. The topics truly resonated with the audience through the storytelling style of the speakers. Many questions related to real life situations were asked and consulted, eliciting valuable responses from the experts.
Panelists are Judge Elisa R. Sarmiento- Flores , Presiding Judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 71, Pasig City. Prior to her appointment in the judiciary, she was a Prosecutor of the Office of the City Prosecutor-Muntinlupa City, Department of Justice and a Public Attorney in PAO-Makati and Muntinlupa; Judge Joe Ricuerdo P. Flores , Presiding Judge of the RTC Branch 6, Tanauan City, Batangas. He is a promoter of efficiency, integrity, responsiveness and courtesy in public service, a children’s right advocate by passion, and an educator by pleasure; Atty. Jefferson Gonzales , Senior Lawyer Makati Public Attorney’s Office, Ms. Jowie Advincula , RPm, RPsy, CSAP, Clinical Psychologist from the Ospital ng Makati (OSMAK); PCPT Jenibeth Artista , Officer-In-Charge Women and Children Protection Desk and Ms. Dulce G. Manansala , RSW, Social Welfare Officer II from the Makati Social Welfare Department.
ZCME President for Biennium 2022-2024 Jeannie Abaya gave the warm welcome and club secretary’s Nicole Suyin Liu-Lee served as the master of ceremony and moderator during the panel discussion. Makati City Social Welfare Head Benita Tanyag gave the closing remarks. Another successful 16 days of activism event brilliantly led by ZCME Past President Armita Rufino and Board of trustees’ Vikki Yu that has reached a wider audience who truly welcomed the opportunity to learn and be supported in their empowerment journeys.
