ZCME is Zooming Now

July 9, 2020

During this year of physical distancing, people are motivated to find new ways to communicate with each other and the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs (ZCME) is no exception. As a result of these efforts, video conferencing platforms like Zoom are redefining what it means to be social through technology.

To keep the ‘connection’ alive, ZCME began its General Membership Meeting last June 30 with a successful teleconference event via Zoom. The GMM was presided by the club’s newly-elected president, Vivian T. Uy and hosted by District 17, Area 5 co-chair for PR, Joanne Zapanta Andrada. The two-part program opened with a talk by guest speaker, AGREA founder and president Cherrie Atilano on “The Importance of Women In Food Systems.”

Early tech issues (from receiving the Zoom invite or learning how to turn on camera microphones) did not prove to be deterrents. In fact these problems brought the members closer together. The successful online GMM illustrated the wonderful spirit of these women and the intensity of their drive to stay connected even when apart.

ZCME’s first Zoom conference lasted for two hours with a total of 46 attendees who had their hair and makeup done and dressed nicely for this virtual gathering.

One could argue that even the most introverted individual has a strong need to feel that she is a part of an organization that welcomes and appreciates her. Engaging in an online fellowship is an excellent way to reinforce that sense of belonging. As such, members of the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs shall be looking forward to more opportunities for sisterly celebration in the months ahead.
