We are in a state of global uncertainty. In just weeks after the government-mandated lockdown, COVID-19 has drastically changed the landscape of our lives, the economy, and the workplace. We are now faced with a global challenge that affects everyone in all corners of the world. We at Zonta Club of Makati and Environs are no exception, as this disease outbreak is having a deep impact on our community and its sustainability. Survival problems arise especially for daily wage earners from vulnerable communities. Poor marginalized and informal settlers do not have access to food and sanitizers due to financial constraints. As a result, they suffer from the adverse catastrophic effects of this pandemic. The government alone cannot feed the people, thus we need to chip in with whatever means we have at our disposal.

ZCME has the experience and track record in supporting the poorest and most vulnerable, namely, destitute families who are living in slums or under similar circumstances. We have mobilized volunteers in the packing and distribution of food and sanitation goods to as many people as possible, while cooperating with local government units in undertaking preventive measures to stop the spread of the corona virus in these high-risk communities. As healthcare systems become overburdened in the fight against COVID-19, we have been donating and are continuously delivering personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face masks, gloves, laboratory overalls, and shoe covers to health workers in various medical institutions.

In this moment of uncertainty, charitable funders with a conscience have a vital role to play in supporting organizations and movements who respond to the social and economic effects of COVID-19. We are extremely grateful to private companies and individuals who represent the majority of our donors despite facing their own economic challenges. Their monetary donations will fund responses like sending doctors, nurses, and other medical frontliners to communities in need; the procurement of masks, ventilators, and other lifesaving medical supplies to hospitals and clinics; the delivery of essential items to struggling families and the elderly in quarantined cities; and much more. Help us help others. Your donations will provide immediate and long-term relief, and the recovery of the most vulnerable during this most challenging time that we are facing collectively.
